Fishing report for 4/26/24
This is the fishing report for 4/26/24. Lots to report today with the weather looking somewhat decent for the foreseeable future. Temps in the air and water are on the rise and are a sign of good things to come.
Tog has been a little up and down this past week, outgoing tide seems to be the best. 9th street piers, OC Longport pier and Corson's have all seen fish. Hearing the boats and kayak working the bridges have had a much better catch. Crabs, clams & sandfleas have all been working. Wrecks and reefs have been good as well, with some days being a very slow pick. This next week should be the best tog fishing we see I think. Haven't heard any along the jetties, with the cold water temps not sure they will show before the season closes.
Striper are still the big ticket. Lots of reports from the inlets on lures mainly, but with the full moon we started hearing a lot of fish on bloods & sandworms. It seems to be turning to an all outgoing tide bite, with lots of fish being caught at night. The size class of fish is a very wide rang, anything from 12 inch fish to 40 plus inch fish. Bridges and piers are still producing at night on soft plastics and bait during the day, bloods, sandworms and clams are the bait of choice. Haven't had much in the surf yet, but heard a couple big fish on worms and clams.
Big bluefish have finally made their long await return. Its not hot and heavy yet but there is some being caught. They have been in the backwaters and started into the inlets. Some on soft plastics and bait like mackerel and mullet, most fish have been caught on hard baits like SP Minnows. This next week i really believe the mass of bluefish will appear and it will be on, very excited to see what happens next.
Fluke season kicks off on Saturday May 4th. There has been numerous fluke caught already and with this warmup coming opening day should be very good (weather permitting.
One of our employees Mr. Verducci is also a teacher at the Ocean City Intermediate School, he also runs the OCIS fishing club. Mr. Verducci took the club out on a tog trip the other day and regardless of the bad tide Cyprus still managed to get this beautiful 13 inch tog. Congrats to Cyprus and thank you to Mr. Verducci for all he does with getting the next generation into the sport that we all love!
