Fishing report for 03/15/24
Spring has sprung and the bass are biting! March 1st came around and set us up for some great action early on. Fish are moving and it seems like its going to be an exciting season.
It didn't take long on opening day for reports to start rolling in. The usual river hotspots seemed to be an instant hit. Bloods and clams are the constant success, with bigger fish being taken on clams according to some reports. Fish have pushed out to the 9th street bridge during the day mainly on bait, with a number of keepers. Night time they have pushed to most the bridges around the island on soft plastics. Haven't heard anything on the beachfront aside from baitfish. Bunker and shad/herring were moving heavy in the inlets on the beach front with birds working but seemingly no fish underneath.
Perch fishing has been extremely good up the rivers. Bloods and grass shrimp have been the usual ticket. They have been moving out of the deeper holes due to the warm temps. Land based perching has been exceptionally well.
It's looking like its going to be a great season (knocks on wood). Bass are active and being caught pretty steadily. Gator bluefish is a subject we have been watching out for constantly and it seems like this is the year they are coming back. They are last reported in the Carolina's which is some very exciting news. Fluke season is set! May 4th - September 25th with a 3 fish limit at 18 inches. Get out and fish because its only going to get better from here. Tight lines!
