Fishing Report 12/17/2022
This is the fishing report for 12/17/2022. Its been cold and windy but the fishable days have been worth it. As our season begins to wind down with Christmas fast approaching, there is still action to report!
Not really a lot to report in the surf sadly. With the beach pumping its been a slow pick. Mostly shorts on plastics around the jetties when you can find clean water. Bait fishing has been hot and heavy...with those evil spiny dogfish. The odds aren't great from what we are hearing about 30 spiny dogfish to 1 striper.
Back bay has seen decent action. There is still tog around the bridges and piers, but its slowing down with the water temp drop. Bass have been around the bridges and lights at night time on plastics. Early evening outgoing tide in the dark has by far been the best time.
Stripers on the troll have been spotty. There's been a few banner days for guys catching 30 plus fish up to 50lbs. Best thing going though is tog and seabass, wrecks and reefs have been hot. 50 plus feet seems to be the ticket.
I had the opportunity to take my wife Amy on a trip with Captain Frank of Brynnie-B Charters on 12/4. The best way to describe this trip was mind blowing. From the first stop at TI reef it was nonstop action all day. We caught over 100 fish (tog, seabass & spiny dogfish). Amy destroyed both of us from the very beginning. We wound up having 12 keeper tog and 3 keeper seabass. Average keeper size was around 4lbs with the biggest being 6lbs. Captain Frank is one of a kind. If you want a great experience with loads of knowledge and fun he's your guy. He also does land based charters as well, Surf trips are his specialty in the summer as well as bridge hopping.
